I did. And I have a 17-mile drive to elementary school to thank for it.

Every morning, my daughter Erica and I passed the time with what we called the Animal Name Game. We quizzed each other on baby animals, their mommies, and their daddies. In fact, we went deep. What’s a baby boy sheep called? A ram lamb!

Eventually, that car-ride game turned into a coloring book.

Meet the porcupette. Every animal page in Babies of the North Woods pairs a big, bold illustration with the baby’s special name and a fun fact.
